Storage Allocations (Quotas)

A storage allocation is the maximum amount of storage a single account or shared drive can store.  Because of the way Google imposes storage, we are unable to customize allocations on a per-account basis, so we have organized the allocations into reasonable slices (“quotas”).  The quotas are organized according to Google licenses (or multiples thereof).

Default Storage Quotas

New accounts will go into the default quotas.  The default quotas go into effect Winter Break 2023.

Quota Storage ALlocation Available To
Default Tier for Licensed Users 20 GB Registered students, faculty, and staff
Default Tier for Unlicensed Users 10 GB Academic affiliates and functional accounts
Default Tier for Shared Drives 50 GB Registered students, faculty, and staff

Legacy Storage Quotas

We purchased additional storage for Google to allow many existing users to keep their current storage level.

Existing faculty, staff, students, and affiliate users along with functional accounts will be placed into a legacy tier (up to 500 GB) based on your Google Workspace usage and use-case.  Legacy Quotas are not guaranteed to be your permanent storage allocation.  Legacy Storage Allocations were rolled out during Winter Break 2023.
